![]() ![]() I tried super glue but it would not hold. Be sure your clock placement is good when gluing. Add drops sparingly and smear them with a small screwdriver along the edges. I used hot glue to install the new clock. One clock design in particular is sold by many sellers on eBay and seems to be the top item: Search for "LCD dashboard clock 12v" and you'll find a ton of them. There are a lot of sellers, all of them in China, who are selling cheap LCD clocks for cars on eBay for about $6 to $8. I actually thought the capacitor on my clock had blown, which is common for old electronics, so I ordered a new capacitor and installed it, as detailed in this Samba post, but that still didn't solve my problem. GoWesty also sells a budget replacement digital clock that simply uses double sided tape to apply over the old clock, and that is a fine option for some, but I wanted a clock like the original-inside the cluster, illuminated at night. ![]() GoWesty sells a replacement screen for the OEM clock but I knew this was not a screen problem, as I could still get certain LCD digits to appear through pressure testing on the screen. Old plastic does not tolerate multiple disassembly/reassembly. The background was still illuminated and the power leads were still getting 12 volts of power, so I knew there was some greater problem.Īnother problem was how the clock assembly got more broken every time I toyed with it. The LCD clock on my Vanagon went suddenly and totally blank on a recent summer road trip. If you have a dead LCD clock and can't find a suitable replacement, or don't want to pay $200 to $300 for a used instrument cluster just to get an unknown clock, this thread is for you.
